A Roma, a fine maggio, migliaia di ciclisti provenienti da tutto il mondo si incontreranno per pedalare insieme. Per il quinto anno nei giorni dal 30 maggio al 2 giugno si terrà la V Critical Mass "Interplanetaria", la "Ciemmona". La città sarà invasa dai colori, dai suoni e dai campanelli dell' evento più gioioso ecritico dei ciclisti urbani di tutto il mondo.
Cos'e?
La Critical Mass è nata a S. Francisco nel 1992 e si ripete ormai in più di 500
città in tutto il mondo. Un gruppo di ciclisti si riunisce per pedalare per le
strade della città al grido di "Noi siamo traffico", creando un'unica
massa che si muove senza soluzione di continuità regalando sorpresa e scompiglio tra gli automobilisti, sempre pronti a rimanere imbottigliati tra di loro ma che
reagiscono nelle maniere più disparate di fronte alla massa di biciclette che li
costringe a rallentare il loro percorso.
A Roma?
Anche a Roma ogni ultimo venerdì del mese un gruppo di ciclisti si incontra
"casualmente" per le strade della città. Un fenomeno che si è ormai
radicato, fino a far contare ogni mese qualche centinaio di partecipanti. Viene dimostrato che con piccoli cambiamenti personali, come l'uso quotidiano della bicicletta, si può mutare la qualità della vita di tutti e rendere più vivibile le nostre città : la bicicletta libera le città dallo smog, dal traffico, dal rumore, è un attività fisica e quindi produce endorfine, che fanno bene al corpo e all'umore, è economica e quindi democratica, ecosostenibile ed estranea ai meccanismi che producono guerre e sfruttamento.
La Ciemmona nasce dall'idea di alcuni partecipanti della CM romana (info:
http://cmroma.tmcrew.org/) di condividere questo momento di gioia e di
consapevolezza, con i ciclisti delle altre Critical Mass italiane e
internazionali. Nato per la prima volta a Roma nel 2004, questo evento è
cresciuto fino a contare, l'anno scorso, oltre 4 mila ciclisti. Tutti
intenzionati a riprendersi la strada e dimostrare che l'automobile in città è un
mezzo ormai obsoleto.

In Rome, at the end of May, thousands of bicyclists coming from all over the
world will meet and cycle together. For the fifth year now, from May 30th to
June 2nd, the Critical Mass will be "Interplanetary", the so-called
"Ciemmona"
(big CM). The city will be invaded by the colours, the sounds, and the bells of
the most cheerful and critical event of urban bicyclists coming from all over
the world.
The Critical Mass started in S. Francisco in 1992 and it takes place in more
than 500 cities all around the world now. A group of bicyclists meet to cycle on
the roads of the city with the slogan: "We are the traffic". Cyclists
create a
mass that moves without any rule and surprises the motorist creating a mess on
the streets. The reactions can be various and different. Some motorist, used to
the car-jamming, do not accept to wait for the mass that goes by, stopping their
run/rush.
Every last Friday of the month a group of bicyclists meets without organization
in Rome also. All the cyclists gather somewhere in the city, where from they
start to pedal in order to revenge the ownership of the city and roads. A
phenomenon that by now has taken roots, it counts every month some hundred
participants (Critical Mass). This shows that with small personal changes, as
the daily use of bicycles, the quality of the life of everybody can be changed
and in order to make our cities more livable: the bicycle clears the cities from
smog, car traffic and noise. Bicycling is a physical activity and therefore it
produces endorphins that are good for the body and the humour. It is cheap and
therefore democratic, ecosostenibile and extraneous to the mechanisms that
create wars and exploitation.
The Ciemmona came from the idea of some participants of the Roman CM (Critical
Mass, more info: http://cmroma.tmcrew.org) to share this moment of joy and
awareness with the people, the bicyclists from all over Italy and from all world
Critical Masses. This idea was realized for the first time in Rome in 2004.
Today this event counts, at least last year, over 4 thousand bicyclists. All
people willing to take back the roads of our cities and to show that the cars is
now obsolete in urban centres.
This year the meeting is also in Rome, at the end of May, for the CIEMMONA 2008.
Here there are the dates and the possibilities of meeting:
Friday, May 30th 18h. Meeting point at Piramide (Ostiense) for the Rome Critical
Mass.
Saturday, May 31st 16h. Departure for the Interplanetary Critical Mass from
Piazza S. Giovanni. After the Interplanetary Critical Mass picnic managed by
bicyclists at Pincio (Villa Borghese). Everyone is invited to bring any kind of
food and/or drinks and something where to lie down to share with everybody else;
please bring also reusable glasses, dishes and forks.
Sunday, June 1st 11h. Meeting point at Piramide (Ostiense). All together will go
at the seaside!!!!
Monday, June 2nd. At some point in the afternoon (we don't know at what time
yet). We'll return from the sea to the city, "Reverse Ciemmona."
